JOHN SHERMAN FOWLER, age 42, died Friday March 21, 2008 after a sudden brief illness. He leaves behind his beloved son, Sebastian John Taylor Fowler of Bethel, CT, his mother, Joan Brown Fowler of Southbury, CT and his sister Marilyn Fowler Brownjohn, his brother-in-law Christopher Brownjohn and his niece and nephew Edward & Elizabeth Brownjohn, all of Bethel, CT.
John was born and raised in Connecticut, growing up in Stamford and most recently residing in Bethel. He graduated from St. Luke's School in New Canaan. John was an accomplished professional musician, an extraordinarily talented drummer who played all over the world. While best known for his work with the 1990s hard rock band Steelheart, with whom he earned a Gold Record for the song "I'm Never Gonna Let You Go (Angel Eyes)", he also performed with many other bands across several musical genres. Most recently he had appeared locally with the Voodoo Jets, Smoke and Hipnotic. He also taught drums locally at East Coast Music, and loved working with his students.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 16 Saw Mill Road, Newtown, CT. Viewing Hours will be before the service from 9:30 am to 11 am, followed by the formal funeral service at 11. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service for all family and friends where memories will be shared and his life celebrated. Burial will be private.
