Tokyo, May 2 APF- A 33-year-old memeber of popular rock group "X-Japan" hanged himself today in an apparent suicide in his apartment in Tokyo, police said.

Hideto Matsumoto, lead guitarist for the defunct band, was found hanging by a towel in his bedroom. He was rushed to hospital but died shortly after arrival, police said.

There was no suicide note, police said.

The five member group, which enjoyed high poplarity among Japanese teenagers in the late 1980's and early 1990's, disbanded last December.
