TOP TWENTY-FIVE SONGS OF 2005: Seeing as I did a list of my favorite albums this year, I figured why not compile the year's best songs as well? There aren't really any rules for this list, so even some of those great up and coming hard rock bands can get in on this one. This list likely changes day by day, but this is what I came up with at the moment. 1. THE ROCK UNITED - The Devil Speaks Swedish Tonight www.therockunited.com No song in 2005 contributed to my tinnitus as much as this one. For a good two months straight this was the theme song during my drive home from work - it mesmerized me with its guttural vocals, silly lyrics, and an "umph" that was like being kicked in the guts by an antelope. Oh yeah, the song also mentions the word 'devil' at least 17 times! 2. ZAN CLAN - High Speed Junkie www.zanclan.com Everything about this song is perfect, from the heavy beat to the precision leads. Even Zinny J. Zan's screams are meticulously placed for full effect. 3. L.A. GUNS - It Don't Mean Nothing www.laguns.net From the opening sounds of police sirens, this song is like a musical riot. L.A. Guns' lays down a heavy groove and Stacey Blades shows off every chance he gets...Tracii who?? 4. BIG COCK - Hard To Swallow www.bigcockrocks.com You might think this is a beautiful love song about highschool sweethearts, until you listen to some of the funniest and filthiest lyrics written this year. "Choking on love's bitter release" still cracks me up...poor girl. 5. JIZZY PEARL - How'd I Get So Lonely www.jizzypearl.com On this mellow number Jizzy Pearl sounds identical to underrated Canadian Sass Jordan. The song is almost out of place on Jizzy's dark solo album, but it is perfect. 6. ALICE COOPER - Dirty Diamonds www.alicecooper.com This is Alice Cooper's heaviest song (without wandering into nu-metal territory) in ages. Someone with a mild form of Alzheimer's likely wouldn't remember the last time he rocked like this. 7. MIDNIGHT CIRCUS - Psychedelic Trippin' www.circusrock.com This song isn't really psychedelic nor does it create a feeling of tripping, but it is a classic example of well done melodic rock. 8. JAKE E. LEE - Whiskey Train www.jakeelee.com Sure it's an old Procol Harum tune, but Jake makes it come alive with his awe-inspiring guitar work. Plus there is more then enough cowbell to go around! 9. JACKVIPER - Merry Go Round www.jackviper.com The best new Faster Pussycat music comes from a little known English band called JackViper. Watch for these guys in 2006. 10. ROX DIAMOND - Joanne www.roxdiamond.com This is as close to AOR as any song on this list got, but I had to give it credit for the powerful vocals. 11. COWBOY PROSTITUTES - Joy www.cowboyprostitutes.com 12. ALICE COOPER - The Saga Of Jesse Jane www.alicecooper.com 13. MR. NASTY - Rock N Roll Man www.thehardline.net 14. BIG COCK - You Suck The Love Out Of Me www.bigcockrocks.com 15. BALLBREAKER - Little Misunderstood www.ballbreaker.net 16. BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION - Tunnel Of Love www.bridesofdestruction.com 17. BEAUTIFUL CREATURES - Unforgiven www.beautifulcreatures.net 18. AMERICAN DOG - Workin' Man www.americandog.us 19. ADLER'S APPETITE - Hollywood www.adlersappetite.com 20. VAIN - Running On Empty www.davyvain.com 21. THE MATLOCKS - Buttcrack Baby www.matlocks.net 22. ZAN CLAN - Go Go Go www.zanclan.com 23. MAMA KIN - Higher & Higher www.mamakin.se 24. GAMBLIN' CREW - She's Got Wheelz www.gamblin-crew.de 25. FAT NANCY - Lonely, Fucked Up And Blue www.fatnancy.com Buy These CDs: |
