GLENN HUGHES RELEASES "SONGS IN THE KEY OF ROCK":

Ex-Deep Purple/Black Sabbath Vocalist/Bassist Glenn Hughes Releases new solo CD "Songs In The Key of Rock"

With his focus on making classic rock music with a modern edge, Deep Purple alumnus, Glenn Hughes has released his latest solo album via Shrapnel, "Songs in the Key of Rock" (nicknamed "SITKOR"). "SITKOR" sees Glenn pay tribute to his past work in Deep Purple and Trapeze with a decidedly modern bent. With drummers, Gary Ferguson and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), running shoulder to shoulder to Glenn's driving, high-profile bass, "SITKOR" has already gaining critical acclaim in Europe and Japan. Additionally, with Glenn Hughes' recent participation in the 2003 Drum Off (which also featured Chad Smith, Andrew WK, members of Tool and Blink 182) and a recent event at The Hard Rock Hotel, alongside of Mark McGuire from Sugar Ray, Glenn helped prove that he is not a rock and roll "dinosaur!"

On "SITKOR" Hughes is also joined by JJ Marsh (guitar), Jeff Kollman (guitar), Ed Roth (keyboards) and Alex Ligertwood (Ex-Santana on backing vocals). Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big) also plays bass on "Change" (the bonus track on the European limited edition of "SITKOR"). Musically the CD has if not two faces; it starts out rocking hard and then progresses into a more mellow pop-oriented vibe. Stand out tracks include the opener, "In My Blood" with Roth's rich Hammond sound up front. "Lost In The Zone," has the typical start & stop type of riffs popularized by Glenn back in the Trapeze days. "Higher Places," has a verse built around a guitar riff not that may remind the listener of Led Zeppelin's "Kasmir."

2003 and beyond promises to be a busy time for Glenn Hughes. He recorded the lead vocals for Dario Mollo's second Voodoo Hill project. The highly anticipated and second studio CD from The Hughes Turner Project (Turner=Joe Lynn Turner of Rainbow/Deep Purple) is also out in the USA. Hughes and Turner plan to tour Japan and Europe in early 2004.

A bit of Hughes History: In 1973 Deep Purple recruited Hughes for bass & vocal duties, as well as a then unknown singer David Coverdale. Deep Purple featuring Hughes and Coverdale released three gold records together that spawned radio hits such as 'Burn' and 'Stormbringer.' One of the highlights of his tenure with Purple was the band's headlining status at the first California Jam concert where Hughes and the band played to 300,000 plus fans. His resume also includes stints with Trapeze, Black Sabbath and Gary Moore. He also made a guest appearance aptly dubbed "The Voice of Rock" on the KLF single "What Time is Love?" which hit #1 on the U.S. charts.
