Review:
The self-titled debut disc from Winger has proved to be a classic in the pop-metal genre. The harder songs such as "Madalaine", "Hungry" (#85) and "Seventeen" (#26) faired well (especially on MTV where Kip Winger's good looks helped sell the band), but it was the ballad "Headed For A Heartbreak" that shot up to #19 on the singles chart and made Winger a household name.
A cover of the Jimi Hendrix classic "Purple Haze" was thrown in for good measure. Winger was one of the most successful hair-metal bands of the 1980's, selling millions of albums, but have also received more flack then any of the other bands of the genre despite their incredible musicianship. The band still tours occasionally to this day, and they deserve two thumbs up!
