History:
A glam band remembered more for their outrageous image then the actual music, Tigertailz built a loyal following but failed to turn that into sustained commercial success.
Forming in the mid 80s in Cardiff, Wales, the group didn't really pick up steam until the line-up was solidified with Steevi Jaimz (vocals and former member of Treason and Crash KO), Jay Pepper (guitar) and Pepsi Tate (bass). A single was recorded with Tokyo Blade's Stephen Pearce on drums before Jaimz recommended the addition of his Crash KO band mate Ace Finchum. With a couple thousand copies of their latest single being eaten up and sold out club shows, Tigertailz managed to attract the attention of the major labels. The debut album was released in 1987, but shortly after the accompanying tour the band would encounter a string of setbacks.
With tensions growing within the band, Jaimz was let go (he would resurface in St. Jaimz) in favor of Kim Hooker. 1990's Bezerk would be Tigertailz commercial highlight, going top 40 in the UK and spawning a hit single in "Heaven". During pre-production for Wazbones Finchum became bored with the group and was replaced by Andy Skinner. After working for close to two years on the new release the band and record company had a dispute that led to the shelving of the album. By 1993 the group had managed to get the rights to the album, but by this time Cy Danaher had replaced Pepper. Tigertailz re-entered the studio and re-recorded the guitar tracks with their new member. However in a confusing twist the band was unable to use the name Tigertailz while fighting with the record company, so the album was released under the name Wazbones in Japan with much of the original recordings with Pepper in tact. Eventually the new re-recordings would get distributed under the Tigertailz name, but in the five years between studio releases all momentum had been lost.
After the Wazbones release the group just seemed to fade away. Surprisingly Jaimz and Finchum resurrected the Tigertailz name in 2003 while Hooker, Pepper and Tate also resurfaced using the same name and released Bezerk 2.0 in 2006 with drummer Matt Blackout. 2007 saw the band release Thrill Pistol, however shortly after it's release bassist Pepsi Tate lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.
