History:
Sass Jordan's impeccable good looks are at odds with her gravel-throated delivery,
but she has proven time and time again that she possesses one of the best voices in
all of hard rock. In later years her material began to drift from the rock mold, but
her incredible voice is able to pull off any genre.
Born in Birmingham, England, Sass Jordan's family immigrated to Canada
when she was still at a young age. Growing up in French speaking Montreal, Sass
tried her hand at writing commercial jingles, translating movies from French to English,
hosting a TV video show and even working in construction before she pursued her first
love, music. After a short stint in the News, Jordan pursued a solo
career. Her debut album received rave reviews, resulting in a Canadian Juno Award for
Most Promising Female Vocalist in 1989.
Having garnered U.S. distribution and working with guitarist Stevie Salas,
Racine managed to reach the Billboard
charts behind singles such as "Make You A Believer" and "You Don't Have To Remind Me".
But it would be 1994's Rats that would be Sass' ballsiest and most successful
recording. Two years later she began recording with the Van Halen brothers, who
were rumored to be interested in having her front their band prior to Gary Cherone's
involvement.
Future releases drifted away from the raw rock she pursued on earlier albums,
even going so far as to rename herself Sas Jordan on Hot Gossip. But in
the day and age of alternative music her releases were all but ignored by the mainstream
public, however she kept herself in the spotlight by appearing as a judge on the reality
TV show Canadian Idol. Sass continues to tour, and we will hopefully be blessed
with another album in the near future.
