History:
The Electric Boys were a great funk-metal combo that would find success in Europe, but barely make a splash in America. They slowly drifted from their roots, partly due to record company interference, to become more of a straight ahead metal band.
The Electric Boys originally formed as a duet by former Road Rats and Rolene members Coney Blomqvist Bloom (vocals) and Andy Christell (bass). The duo released the "All Lips N' Hips" single before expanding the band to a four piece with the addition of Franco Santunione (guitar) and Niclas Sigevall (drums). The debut album was released independently in Sweden and considered a funk-metal classic. However when the band signed a major label deal the album was re-released without much of the trademark funk, as producer Bob Rock went for a more commercial approach. The album made a dent in the Billboard Top #100, thanks in part to a reworked version of "All Lips N' Hips".
Groovus Maximus made the band household names in Europe, but was a major disappointment in America. Slim Martin Thomander and Thomas Broman would replace Santunione and Sigevall respectively for the third album. However, by this time musical trends had changed significantly and few people cared anymore. Realizing that the band was over, the Electric Boys (both current and former members) played their farewell gig in Stockholm, Sweden, October 16, 1994.
Coney Bloom has carried on with a successful solo career in his home country as well as going on to join a revamped version of Hanoi Rocks as a guiatrist. The Electric Boys' star burned out way to fast, but they did leave three incredible albums behind.
