Review:
Well I'll be damned! For years I have believed that the late 80's Sunset Strip scene
had all but dried up, but I couldn't have been more wrong--the Strip didn't die with
the arrival of grunge, it just packed it's bags and moved to Sweden! That's right,
Crashdiet have emerged with an abundance of sleaze, complete with great guitar
solos, big hair, outrageous wardrobes, bad attitudes and a dash of punk.
Musically they remind me of a cross between King Diamond and
Junkyard's David Roach signing along to Diamond Rexx type music.
Vocalist Dave Lepard doesn't always hit the right notes, especially on the
higher register, but that's part of the bands charm. Crashdiet have included
everything, the good, the bad, and the ugly--warts and all. They don't hide behind
fancy production and studio tricks, they lay it all on the line--take it or leave it.
Every song on this album goes for the throat, although things slow down
for "California White". The best part of the album is the guitar duo of Lepard
and Sweet. It is refreshing to hear some killer guitar solos in this age of
detuned shit. Check Crashdiet out at www.crashdiet.org,
you may be pleasantly surprised--I know I definitely was!
