Review:
Power metal really isn't my thing, not because I don't like the sound of it, but because I don't know anything about it. Also, with an album like Ramayana, I have trouble getting into the lyrics. Fantasy books, movies and lyrics have never interested me and when it comes to music I prefer the sex, drugs and rock'n'roll staples.
I have to say that this is an ambitious effort..."Ramayana: An Epic In Six Parts" anyone? The epic is a collection of songs, including the best on the album "Hanuman", about a princess sending her lover to slay a beast. Although I got stumped when she wanted to touch the stag's "rising flank, feel his corded neck between her thighs". The names are all too confusing - hell even the magic bow has a name! - and I had all but lost interest by "Part V".
There is no denying that Antiquus have talent as guitar leads are played at every turn. But as I stated earlier, power/prog metal isn't my cup of tea. I guess I didn't play enough Dungeons & Dragons in my day to appreciate an album like Ramayana. I'm guessing that this album would be appreciated by fans of this genre, or by people that dress-up like Hobbits and stand in line for the latest Lord Of The Rings movie. But I'm not one of those people, and honestly I can't picture fans of this website enjoying Ramayana. www.antiquus.net
