Review:
First it was Work Sucks and now it Sucks To Be You - either way there seems to be a lot of sucking going on. The one thing around here that doesn't suck is the four songs on this EP - I like it a lot more then the previous release. The band seems more focused and cohesive then on Work Sucks, and it results in a platter that is easier to swallow.
Vocalist Weakley seems to have settled on a particular style this time and the band as a whole is sharper then ever. Sucks To Be You is kind of a fun album like you'd find from Ugly Kid Joe, but not as poppy or silly. These guys play a newer version of hard rock, but have enough guitars and attitude to please old-school fans. My favorite is "8 Days" (although "Polluted" has a chorus that sticks in your head) with its gang-vocal chorus and cool guitar solos blasting throughout. "Spilling Blood & Wasting Time" is this albums version of "Strange Fruit" where the band once again tackles a 70s rock sound, and they always seem to nail it.
Of course Weakley once toiled for the more glam oriented Teeze and Roughhouse, but American Sugar Bitch has a much more modern sound then those two outfits. I think this is a big step forward compared to Work Sucks. Both albums can be bought dirt cheap at www.americansugarbitch.com.
