History:
Rude, lewd, dirty, and drunken hard rock is American Dog's stock in trade. A
breath of fresh air from a band who brings back "working man's" metal, spitting in the
face of political correctness.
American Dog was formed from the ashes of Hilljack, who released a self-titled CD in 1997, by Michael Hannon
(vocals/bass, also ex-Salty Dog and Dangerous Toys) and Keith
Pickens (drums). The duo recruited Steve Theado on guitar and started taking
their raunchy music to every seedy bar around. Their debut album was released on an
independent label, and the following year they released a live in the studio EP that
showcased the power and rawness they possessed.
The Scars-N-Bars album contained more straight forward kick-ass rock'n'roll and
late 2005 saw the release of another live recording, Foamin' At The Mouth Live. Shortly after the release of 2007's Hard Pickens left the band due to personal reasons and was replaced by
former Godz drummer Frank Garisto. Pickens was back in the fold by the time This Ain't The Summer Of Love surfaced in 2009 as an EP teaser for their January 2010 studio album Mean.
American Dog are the type of rockers that will never hit it big despite
entertaining songs and live shows. Music like this just isn't made for the mainstream;
it's created for people that have fun in dark, smoke-filled bars.
